Travelogue - Perunthenaruvi waterfalls
Planning ahead for events is a good thing. More so if your planning is near perfect. A journey well planned is no different-it gives you a lot of comfort. But when you get an idea for a trip suddenly and follow it without any planning, that is when you get to know what real thrill is!
It began as an idea while talking to Rinu yesterday over phone- we were discussing romance and that is when a plan for a trip to a romantic place was conceived. Then Shiju was added to the plan and I had a trip of 3 people in 2 bikes in my mind. But when the journey started, we were 11 people on 6 bikes, some of them I did not even know and the place is notorious for killing people, especially youth.
We started the trip one hour later than scheduled from Rinu's house after having some tea and snacks. The road half way up was in good condition- it is the Sabarimala route. Once we took the byroad from Perunad(well, it is not a road according to the city standards) the motorcycles were experiencing the greatest endurance test of their life, jumping over rocks- some of them sharp enough to rip apart your tyre -and climbing steep heights. Finally once we reached the place, all worries were gone and we surrendered to the beauty and serenity of the place.
The whole surrounding was simply captivating, maybe a bit too captivating that many a youth have lost their lives -local people say they were invited by the waters. Luckily for us, the rocks were not slippery as it is not the rainy season. We were on the 'other' side of the waterfall, as all the other people were seen on the opposite side. But from here we could do a lot more trekking through the rocky terrain. The boys who came from Tiruvalla-which is part of upper kuttanad, a low lying area- were hilarious in the water and amid the rocks and I was a bit worried about them and warned them about the danger that lie in the water every other minute and was counting them every now and then. Still not a favourite tourist spot, the place is pure , the water clear and the atmosphere refreshing and rejuvenating. You can just sit on these rocks and spent the whole day dreaming.
A beautiful day began to fade with the drowning sun and we had to go now, but I was in no mood to return, and I believe none of us were, but we had promises to keep and miles of rocky terrain to go before we could sleep and the words of Rinu were a befitting end line to the journey " seems like I have done something today"
